Disability Discrimination

The Welfare Rights Centre Inc. is funded to provide an independent legal service to people who feel they are discriminated against on the basis of their disability.

This specialist service is offered 3 days each week. Due to the nature of the work the 3 days are not regular.

If you are looking for advice you should contact the office and we will arrange for you to be called back. Contact us.

Legal staff from this service may be able to provide professional support and representation before the following:

  • Queensland Anti-Discrimination Commission and Tribunal
  • Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission
  • Federal Court of Australia
  • Federal Magistrates Court

If we can not help with your disability discrimination matter an appropriate and professional referral will be provided.

We do not have the resources to assist with all matters. Our Casework Guidelines assist us to determine what matters we can support and represent. Click on the link for a copy of these guidelines.

Policy and Law Reform

Welfare Rights Centre Inc. actively campaigns to promote the interests of people with a disability and contributes to debate on law reform surrounding Disability Discrimination.

Community Education

People with a disability offer wealth and diversity to our community. This is undermined by discrimination and harassment. Through education and information, we work to embed the objects of the Disability Discrimination Act which include:

  • Eliminating discrimination against people on the grounds of disability;
  • Ensuring that persons with a disability have the same rights to equality before the law as the rest of the community;
  • Promote recognition and acceptance within the community of the principle that persons with disabilities have the same fundamental rights as the rest of the community.
